In a nutshell, this bill will legally stifle the dissent and voice of the newly formed liberty-minded groups just in time for November's elections. Surprised? Check out these links: Article from Heritage Foundation: http://blog.heritage.org/?p= 36480 Article from Reason.com: http://reason.com/archives/ 2010/06/02/undisclosed- interests Press Release from Sen. McConnell: http://bit.ly/bSZwpB Article from SFGate: http://bit.ly/bZXNLe Points to discuss - Bans on independent expenditures by government contractors from 90 days before the primary all the way through the general election, even those that win contracts via competitive bidding - HOWEVER - the ban does not apply to public-sector employee unions or government grant recipients - Prohibits corporations from pre-election political speech if 20 percent or more of their equity is owned by foreign nationals or investors - HOWEVER - the prohibition does not apply to international unions like SEIU and other international activist groups like GreenPeace - When allowed to speak, if corporations mention a candidate in their ads, they could come under investigation by the FEC for unauthorized "coordination" with a campaign - HOWEVER - this will most likely affect small groups with limited legal knowledge and resources and will most likely chill their political speech - Requires such over-the-top "disclosure" that an average 30-second ad on TV will now be forced to use 10-15 seconds of time just talking about who is behind the ad, even the ACLU says this will have a chilling effect on political speech - Requires the disclosure of the names of people who donate to an organization if the organization put out a political ad, even though the people have nothing to do with conception, creation, or publication of the ad - A two-tiered system of campaign-finance laws and 1st Amendment protections, one for the big guys, and one for everybody else - The only groups exempt from these speech-stifling laws are 501(c)(4) organizations with members in all 50 states, numbering more than 500,000 overall, that have been in existence for ten years and receive 15 percent or less of their funds from corporations. Does that describe your tea party group? Probably not. Watch out. A few ways this will affect you and your group personally: - You will have to be extremely careful about any email alerts you send out regarding what you say, if you mention a candidate's name, and when you send it - You may have to disclose all of your donors' names to the FEC - You will have to make sure you are following the "stand by your ad" requirements if your group published any sort political communication - Again, you will have to be very careful about the timing of your advocacy communications as they will limit the timeframe that you are allowed political speech The bottom line? This bill has passed the House and we must stop it in the Senate. Back to the top Financial Regulation bill, S.3217 This bill cements into place the "too big to fail" corporations that leave taxpayers on the hook yet again, over and over, and they do nothing to rein in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It also allows unelected "regulators" to decide who wins and who fails. Check out these links: Articles from the Heritage Foundation: http://bit.ly/9uPa1o andhttp://bit.ly/cGm0Xz Article from HotAir.com: http://bit.ly/cI027i Article from FreedomWorks: http://bit.ly/csud4s The New York Times states, "'The bill, completed early Friday and expected to come up for a final vote this week, is basically a 2,000-page missive to federal agencies, instructing regulators to address subjects ranging from derivatives trading to document retention. But it is notably short on specifics, giving regulators significant power to determine its impact.' In other words, this law is going to be continually rewritten by federal bureaucrats for years to come. And the continued uncertainty it will create is just the beginning of it's faults..." Points to discuss - Permanent bailout authority - Trusting the same regulators that failed last time - Brand new innovation killing regulators - Micromanaging the market - Fannie and Freddie forever (This is possibly the most egregious part - they refuse to protect taxpayers from Fannie and Freddie's "risky behavior.") - Mandates that all regulatory agencies with economic jurisdiction hire employees based on gender and race The bottom line? This bill has passed both the House and the Senate and we are only waiting for the Senate to pass the conference committee bill, which is the House/Senate compromise. Once it passes it gets signed into law by the President. Back to the top Forced unionization of public employees bill, S.3194 (a.k.a. S.Amdt.4174) The bill mandates that state and local governments enter into collective bargaining agreements with their public safety employees and provides minimum collective bargaining standards for state and local police, firefighters and emergency medical technicians personnel. Currently there are at least 15 states (if not more) that ban collective bargaining (unions) for public employees. Why? Because those unions are one major reason why so many states are broke. It's why NJ Governor Chris Christie is taking on public employee unions. Don't let Congress slip this bill into any other bill. Their main goal is to secure more dues payers for SEIU and other major progressive issue supporters and politicians. Article from National Right to Work: http://bit.ly/blTyMB Article from State Budget Solutions: http://bit.ly/aE8ATp Article from Weekly Standard: http://bit.ly/d5MTkS Points to discuss - Grants every police officer, firefighter, and emergency medical technician at the state or local level the right to form and join a labor union - Directs local governments to recognize the employees' labor union - Requires local governments to collectively bargain over hours, wages, and the terms and conditions of employment other than pensions - Requires states and municipal governments to establish an impasse resolution process - Requires that state courts enforce the rights established by this mandatory collective bargaining bill - Directs every state - even if that state currently recognizes employee collective bargaining rights - to conform to federal regulations around mandatory collective bargaining within two years of the bill's effective date and without regard to state or local laws. The bottom line? States cannot afford any more public employees or their unions! Now is the time to cut back on these items, not add more of them! This bill also violates states' rights to make their own decisions about unions and collective bargaining. Back to the top Rep. Steve King's (R-IA) Discharge Petition to repeal Health Care legislation, H.R.4792 Nancy Pelosi will not allow a vote on repealing Obamacare, but there is a way around her. It is called a Discharge Petition and we need 218 representatives to sign it in order to bring it to the floor for a vote. Right now there are 109 of the necessary 218 signatures. We must pressure all Republicans to sign it and as many Democrats as possible - after all - it is only to allow a vote. President Obama repeatedly called for an " up or down vote" during the initial health care battles, and the American people deserve an up or down vote now on whether or not to repeal Obamacare. Those who do not sign the Discharge Petition are unwilling to allow a real vote (unlike the method by which Obamacare was passed - through Reconciliation) and can then be held responsible in November. The bottom line? Force Reps. to choose, one way or the other, so constituents know where they stand when it comes time to vote. All Republicans voted against the health care legislation and 39 Democrats voted against it. They should ALL now sign this discharge petition.
Sincerely, Pam Silleman

Hey Napa Tea Partiers:
don't miss Thursday's tea party at 4-6!!
on our corner of Jefferson and Trancas.
The crowds grow larger every time Pelosi opens her mouth.
Last year the 'Tea Party' was just a scattered rumbling of people, not a party, just a feeling. We were like beads of mercury scattered throughout the country, now the beads have all come together, not by their political party, but by the love for our country and the pursuit of justice. It is our hope to restore common sense AND FAIRNESS to Washington.
Today we see the 'red hot' thermometer reading the 'fever of Americans'!! As seen when SCOTT BROWN took MASSACHUSETTS

Subject: Fight the Fed legally
It's time to hit the government where it hurts -- in the wallet. Let's remind them: "IT'S MY MONEY!!! Christine Steele Gates came up with a great idea. On Monday, everyone adjust your federal withholding to "9", the maximum number. That will reduce the amount of taxes the feds can legally extract from your paycheck, essentially starving the federal coffers through the end of the year and into 2010. Of course many of us must eventually pay the withheld tax in April; however, we can delay sending in OUR MONEY until Oct 15th legally by requesting extensions 'til then. That way we can starve the Fed legally until two weeks before V day. This must go viral. Please repost and then make the change on Monday.

"I know in my heart that man is good, that what is right will always eventually triumph and there is purpose and worth to each and every life." - Ronald Reagan
"We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free." - Ronald Reagan
"Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose." - Ronald Reagan

"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have made a difference in the world. Marines don't have that problem." - Ronald Reagan
"The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant: It's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan
"Of the four wars in my lifetime none came about because the U.S. was too strong." - Ronald Reagan
"I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandment's would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress." - Ronald Reagan
"The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination." - Ronald Reagan
"Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other." - Ronald Reagan
"If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." - Ronald Reagan
"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program." - Ronald Reagan
"I've laid down the law, though, to everyone from now on about anything that happens: no matter what time it is, wake me, even if it's in the middle of a Cabinet meeting." - Ronald Reagan
"It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first." - Ronald Reagan
"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." - Ronald Reagan
"Politics is not a bad profession. If you succeed there are many rewards, if you disgrace yourself you can always write a book." - Ronald Reagan
"No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. - Ronald Reagan
"Our coins bear the words 'In God We Trust.' We take the oath of office asking his help in keeping that oath. And we proclaim that we are a Nation under God when we pledge allegiance to the flag. But we can't mention his name in a public school or even sing religious hymns that are non-denominational. Christmas can be celebrated in the school room with pine trees, tinsel and reindeers but there must be no mention of the Man whose birthday is being celebrated. One wonders how a teacher would answer if a student asked why it was called Christmas." - Ronald Reagan
"The men of Normandy had faith that what they were doing was right, faith that they fought for all humanity, faith that a just God would grant them mercy on this beachhead or on the next. It was the deep knowledge -- and pray God we have not lost it -- that there is a profound, moral difference between the use of force for liberation and the use of force for conquest. You were here to liberate, not to conquer, and so you and those others did not doubt your cause. And you were right not to doubt.
You all knew that some things are worth dying for. One's country is worth dying for, and democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man."
- Ronald Reagan, 40th anniversary of the D-Day invasion at Normandy, France
